"To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens." That is the mission of the Boys and Girls Club of America. The Boys and Girls Club offers a safe place for children to learn and grow, but it is also much more than that! As Denzel Washington said, "The Boys Club, that’s where I looked for hope and purpose and direction. That’s where I learned to dream – to think big….."
In 1995, a group of concerned and dedicated people decided something needed to be done for the young people on the western slope of El Dorado County. They wanted a safe place and the best programs available so they searched for the organization with the greatest track record serving children. The Boys & Girls Clubs of America program was chosen. On June 2, 1999 the local Club began daily programs for kids at the Armory in Placerville. Today they serve over 700 kids daily between the ages of 5 and 18 at their three locations in Placerville, Georgetown, and Pollock Pines. Sixty-five percent of the youth come from low-income families. In Placerville they serve around 200 young people daily in the old armory building, with six different school districts dropping off kids at the clubhouse. However, that location is about to grow and change! Already underway is the new clubhouse located in Placerville at Green Valley and Mallard! Sean McCartney, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club in El Dorado County told the local paper, the Mountain Democrat he already sees the kids playing games in the game room, learning in the computer lab, planning activities in the teen room, completing a project in the art center or practicing free throws in the gym!
American Heritage Real Estate Professionals of Cameron Park know a thing or two about dreaming big! We also always look to the future and aim to grow! Vince Cavallini, owner and broker of American Heritage Real Estate Professionals started his business in Brentwood, California before moving it to Cameron Park, here in El Dorado County. He has partnered with Shred Stop of Shingle Springs to hold a fundraiser to help raise money to finish the new clubhouse for The Boys and Girls Club and fully equip it. When asked, "Why the Boys and Girls Club?" His response was simple, yet powerful. "I used to be involved with The Boys and Girls Club in Tracy" he stated. "It's a great program for all of the youth. It keeps them safe and gives them a place to go after school and learn and make friends. I think it's a program that benefits the entire community! I'd like to do what I can to raise awareness and help them move into their new location."
